Press Release: Chaucer enhances international property capabilities with two hires
Chaucer Group (‘Chaucer’), the global specialty (re)insurance group, today announces the appointment of Emma Brown and Andy Cleair as Class Underwriters to its International Property division. They are based in London and report to Mel Smart, Head of International Property Fac.
Brown and Cleair will be responsible for supporting Smart with the growth of the international property portfolio, using their extensive broker networks to bring in new business as well as maintain existing accounts.
Brown brings more than 20 years of Lloyd’s and company markets experience to Chaucer. She joins from SCOR where she was a senior property underwriter for just over five years. Prior to this, she was at Navigators as an international property underwriter. Brown has held various senior underwriting roles, mostly in the property class of business, at several well-known (re)insurance companies such as Novae, Liberty and Allied World.
Cleair also brings more than 20 years of Lloyd’s and company markets experience to Chaucer. He joins from Everest Syndicate where he held the role of Senior Property Underwriter. Prior to this, he worked at Aviva as property underwriting manager responsible for underwriting D&F business. He also spent more than 13 years at XL as a senior property underwriter responsible for large complex multinational programmes.

Chaucer’s International Property Fac team now has nine underwriters across three offices (London, Miami and Dubai), each with over 20 years market experience.
Smart adds, “We are now fully equipped to successfully navigate today’s challenging market, whilst continuing to deliver our next five year growth plans.
